A student was taken into custody Thursday after a gun was brought to Cocoa High School, with district officials suspending multiple other students, according to an email from the school's principal.

District security and law enforcement discovered a student had brought a gun to school on Thursday, and that multiple students had seen it, according to an email sent Thursday evening to the school community by Principal Denise Stewart.

Law enforcement had taken one student into custody Thursday evening, according to Stewart. Multiple students were suspended according to the email and Russell Bruhn, a spokesperson for the district, though he did not say how many. The investigation is ongoing.

"I am relieved that nobody was injured today, and I want to remind you that we take the safety of our students and staff seriously," Stewart said in the email. "We will always do whatever is needed to ensure your child is safe and secure while in our school."
