Meetings between the best teams are chances for entertainment for fans, coaches and players.

Friday night, our No. 1 and No. 2 teams will meet at Cocoa and should draw quite a crowd. It will be one of the highlights of the year for Brevard County fans.

Other teams in the area have opportunities to prove themselves on the field, and that could bring changes the next time this list is compiled.

Week by week:2023 Brevard HS football schedule

As Week 5 games approach, here is how we rank the top 10 teams in this area:

1. Cocoa (2-1)

After a week off, the Tigers will get back onto the field wanted to get the bad taste out of their mouths from the last-second loss and controversy at St. Thomas Aquinas. Eau Gallie may be unlucky in its timing of facing Cocoa, or the Commodores could catch the home team looking back. Last week: 1

2. Eau Gallie (4-0)

The Commodores have their chance on Friday. Eau Gallie came into the season with a need to win "one of the big ones" to get statewide recognition, and previous results this season prove this year's Cocoa team is a formidable opponent. Last week: 2

3. Rockledge (2-2)

The Raiders took advantage of back-to-back games against local teams they should beat, and they evened their record for 2023. Now, it's back out on the road to face Kissimmee Osceola and Jacksonville Trinity Christian. Last week: 4

4. Heritage (3-1)

The Panthers defense not only gave up its first points of the season, but Heritage suffered its first loss, 42-35 at Oviedo on Thursday. Unbeaten Merritt Island visits in Week 5, and that presents the opportunity for Heritage to get back on track. Last week: 3

5. Titusville (4-0)

The Terriers lead District 12-2S after a win at Palm Bay. They step back out of district play by hosting Fleming Island next. Last week: 5

6. Merritt Island (4-0)

Perhaps the Mustangs are better than one or more of the top five teams. If that's the case, a win at Heritage should make it clear. This is a big week for Merritt Island in terms of finding out where it stands within Brevard. Last week: 6

7. Palm Bay (2-2)

The Pirates tried to come back to defeat visiting Titusville but fell just short. Palm Bay heads south to play Ft. Pierce Central this week. Last week: 7

8. Holy Trinity (3-1)

The Tigers suffered their first loss of the season and were shut out by Merritt Island. Holy Trinity plays its first District 4-1A game of the season in Daytona Beach against Father Lopez. Last week: 8

9. Satellite (2-2)

The two-week winning streak ended at Eau Gallie. Satellite's schedule includes all the best teams in Brevard, including Cocoa in the preseason. Last week: 10

10. Viera (1-3)

The Hawks got off the losing streak, ending it at 15 games with the win over MCC, which drops out of the rankings for now. Viera faces one of its previous head coaches this week Kevin Mays and Baker County. Last week: unranked
