321preps high school sports notebook: Cocoa Beach hoops coach needed, Mel-Hi rowing title

Cocoa Beach Jr./Sr. High is seeking a head boys basketball coach after the resignation of Wardell Collins last week for personal reasons.

Those interest in the job should e-mail a resume to athletic director Ted Kimmey at kimmey.ted@brevardschools.org.

"We want to thank coach Wardell Collins for all of his contributions to Cocoa Beach boys basketball: 17 wins and a district runner-up finish last season," Kimmey said. "We're excited to see what the future holds for Beach basketball. A state-championship-winning program deserves the right leader."

Melbourne High rower wins state title

Will Kerschensteiner of Melbourne High rowing won the program's first state championship on Sunday at Sarasota.

Competing at Nathan Benderson Park, Kerschensteiner won the Florida State Rowing Association boys lightweight single title by more than 13 seconds. His time was 6:15.191.

Space Coast Crew took four boats and five athletes. Joshua Ogburn placed fourth in varsity single and Declan Connor seventh in junior single. Caroline Hall took third in her junior single race, while Cailin Buchanan and Elisabeth Marks were fourth in varsity double.
