Christmas Time at the Mill returns Dec. 6 for 5th year
A signature tradition of the Waseca Holiday season, Christmas Time at the Mill is back for a fifth year, bigger than ever and supported for the first time by its own formally incorporated nonprofit organization. Event founder and local American Family Insurance agent Matt Petsinger stopped by the Waseca City Council to invite Councilors, staff and of course all members of the public to stop by the celebration, which will be held 1-7 p.m. Dec. 6 at The Mill Event Center. The event is now governed by a three member board that includes Petsinger and Councilor Mark Christiansen, but helping to bring the event to fruition is a much larger group that includes more than 20 local businesses and volunteer groups. Small groups handle each piece of the event, from inviting Santa to putting on the arts and crafts to organizing the entertainment. The program is entirely funded by donations, enabling Christmas Time at the Mill to offer a fun event for families that is free of charge. Behind the wheel with Waconia singer-songwriter Chris J
Holiday music listeners looking for a break from overplayed songs like “Last Christmas” or “White Christmas” might want to give “How many more days until Christmas?” a listen. That’s the new work of Waconia’s own professional songwriter Chris Weinberger. Car salesman at Waconia Dodge Chrysler Jeep Ram by day, singer songwriter Chris J by night. Weinberger has been writing songs since his childhood growing up in Milwaukee, Wisc., and has played most of the music venues there. The band he played with for many years, Eddie Mac, was established in 1996. The band toured nationally and recorded a CD in Germany in 1997. The name “Eddie Mac” came from a mis-spelling on a marquee, according to Weinberger. The founding members of Eddie Mac, Peter McCauley, Mike Mehsikomer and Chris J. Weinberger were originally the backup band for a well-known Twin Cities singer songwriter at the time. “Wanting to be more than just a backup band we asked for a new band name,” Weinberger said. “We were told ‘Yes, as long as the band name includes my name in it. I have name recognition.’ Ironically, when we arrived at the concert venue that evening, they had butchered his ‘well recognized’ name
