Somali students work to find belonging in Edina amidst community unrest
“People assume stuff about you like that you might not be as smart, that you’re not as American, or more socially awkward, or that you’re not willing to integrate,” senior Samira Khadar said. “Or [you’re] excluded in groups and classrooms when you have to partner up and people just ignore you.”

Providence Lions finish 3-5 for regular season
The Providence Academy Lions had high hopes going into the 2026 football season with 1,000-yard passer JJ Rooney returning as the senior quarterback. When a broken collar bone sent Rooney to the sidelines, he continued to help the team by mentoring sophomore understudy Tommy Willihnganz. With the younger QB in charge, the Lions finished the regular season with a 3-5 record. While that was a good mark, all things considered, Providence players wondered what might have happened if JJ Rooney was in the lineup. Providence Academy’s regular-season finale Oct. 21 was a 47-14 loss to undefeated Orono, the defending district champion. The Spartans passed for 223 yards and ran for 224 in a perfectly balanced offense. The score at halftime was 34-0 before the Spartans eased off a bit in the second half. Willihnganz had 99 passing yards, but Providence Academy’s rushing attack was stopped cold with only 33 yards on 19 carries. Providence Academy’s touchdown came via a 60-yard kick-off return by Zach Roles to open the third quarter and a 7-yard run by Noah Boro in the fourth quarter. Boro kicked both extra points. Two Providence pass catchers made their presence known against Orono. Roles had six receptions

Carleton students join hundreds in ‘No Kings’ protest
About 500 people flocked to Ames Park in Northfield to rally in favor of voting early. It was cool and windy Saturday morning on Mai-Fête Island as students from Carleton College ate doughnuts, talked to local DFL candidates and worked on signs reading “No Kings” and “Power of the People.” A few hours later, they were among a crowd of more than 500 protesters in downtown Northfield. “It’s so great to see that I’m not alone, and that it’s going to be OK,” said Kate Boye-Williams, a sophomore at Carleton. “There’s all these people here that at the very least disagree with what’s going on. It’s great that there’s other people that think this, and it makes a difference.” Boye-Williams, originally from Connecticut, was one of more than a dozen students and community members present at a warm-up event leading up to the No Kings: Vote Early rally in downtown Northfield Saturday afternoon. Kaye Boye-Williams said her parents, both university professors, used to take her to protests when she was little. Here, she works on her sign she’d later take down to Ames Park. Juniors Lizzie Appelbaum and Rivers Curry helped organize the warm-up rally. Several DFL candidates made an
