Folks at CCSD are not all on board with this boondoggley CCSD "event center," huh? $50 million announced price means at least $200 million by the time it's done, and the transplanted retirees from the NE don't pay school taxes just 'cause they're old, not 'cause they paid their share into our schools. The retiree transplants haven't paid one dime into our schools, yet they enjoy the "reward" for having paid our school taxes their whole working lives. These folks coming in flush with cash and buying houses here, that raises our (alleged aka assessed) property values which raises our real property taxes, meaning what? This: Our retiree school tax break is actually harmful to people that have been here a long time and have worked a long time here. Our taxes go up and up and up due to supposed values on our houses going up and up and up, despite us not selling our houses, meaning the assessed values are made up, up, up, up, up. And the reason they go up and up and up? Retirees from NE think $600,000 for a little house is a BARGAIN, outbid locals, and put away the remaining $1,000,000+ from the sale of their metro NYC house, their Hamptons house, the boat house in Bangor, etc. They don't pay property taxes. They make our property taxes higher. Why are we always talking about building that wall on the Southern border? That wall need to be build on the Mason Dixon line. Either that or we invoke a Transplant Tax rule, allowing transplants to buy their way into having earned the school tax break that was intended for people who worked their entire career at Lockheed. They don't have to pay the Transplant Tax, but if they choose not to, they need to pay our Schools Tax, just like folks born here and worked here for 40 years and counting, but are only about 56 years old. Our school taxes go up and up and up, and it's because of this boondoggle event center for one, but also it's because of real estate prices being driven ever upward by transplants who, in an extra cruel twist to both taxation and representation, they don't even pay the school tax! They only raise it! And the real estate folks on city council and county commission, they smile all the way to the bank and back.

I really feel that any new senior homeowners in the county should have to live in the county for several years before getting the school tax break that we life or long-time citizens enjoy.

As I understand it, the new center will be built from the SPLOST pot, NOT school taxes.

So your rant, Gee Whiz, is moot.

Actually OG, the $50m is coming from the sale of properties (originally paid for with tax dollars) and and from money received from the state to reimburse for construction projects, Cobb officials said. The board also authorized the district to use its savings to cover some of the cost while waiting for the state reimbursements to come in. All tax funds
