Joe Flacco was brought in by the Cleveland Browns as an emergency option due to quarterback injuries. He was so good, however, that the team wants him back in 2024.

Browns general manager Andrew Berry made clear Monday that he would love to have Flacco back in 2024 as the team’s backup quarterback. He added, however, that the money would have to be right for that to happen.

“Joe, he played winning football for us,” Berry said, via Jake Trotter of ESPN. “He did a great job of coming in and really playing at a high level. … I believe that backup quarterback really is a top-30 position on the roster.”

“[Flacco] is a good quarterback, but it really depends … on the availability and the cost.”

Even after how he played this year, it seems unlikely that Flacco will be offered a starting job elsewhere. He could potentially have the chance to compete for one, which might appeal to him more than serving as Deshaun Watson’s backup would. On the other hand, Flacco raved about the Browns organization after the team’s season ended.

Flacco turned 39 last week, but he did throw for 1,616 yards and 13 touchdowns in just five games after being signed in November. Whether it is with the Browns or not, he clearly has a future in the league after it looked like he was finished a few months ago.
