CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a crash that killed two people in Lorain County on Friday morning.

A 29-year-old Maryland woman was driving a 2016 Nissan Murano on the Ohio Turnpike in Amherst Township when she veered off the right side of the road about 6:15 a.m, the patrol said.

The car then “struck and traveled up an embankment before vaulting down and striking a wooded area and overturning before coming to rest,” the patrol said in a statement. Four other passengers were in the car.

Patrice Morris, the driver, suffered serious injuries. Paramedics took her to Lorain Mercy Hospital, and she was later flown to MetroHealth Medical Center. Morris is from Edgewood, Maryland.

Dacia Clayborn, 22, and Lashell Silver, 42, both from Edgewood, died in the crash, the patrol said.

Monay Gaines, 19, of Edgewood and a juvenile passenger were airlifted to Metro with serious injuries, as well.

Amherst fire and police departments, Lifecare EMS, the Lorain County coroner’s office and Interstate Towing assisted the patrol at the crash. The accident remains under investigation.
