Broken water main floods downtown intersection

A broken water main has caused significant flooding near Public Square on Sunday morning.

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Authorities are urging people to avoid a section of downtown because of a broken water main.

In a Sunday morning tweet, Cleveland police’s Third District shared a photo of flooding at the intersection Ontario Street and St. Clair Avenue, which is near Public Square and Key Tower. Police officials have blocked the intersection.

It is not clear when the water main ruptured or when it will be fixed.

The National Weather Service said Sunday that the Cleveland area has faced temperatures that are colder than normal for this time of year. On Sunday, temperatures are to remain in the upper 20s, though they could reach 50 degrees on Monday.
