Clemson lands five-star commitment that caused Dabo Swinney to jump for joy

The Clemson Tigers are cooking with gas at the inside linebacker position thanks to their latest 2024 commitment.

Sammy Brown, a five-star linebacker from Jefferson, Georgia, is a big-time recruit. He's an elite high school linebacker in every sense of the word. In fact, 247Sports considers him the highest-ranked linebacker recruit in the network's history of recruiting rankings which goes all the way back to 1999.

That's a big deal, and Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney was apparently so excited that he took to the table tops after Brown told him that he was committing to the Tigers.

“So I had a meeting with (Swinney) to just talk about where I’m at, and he basically said that he wants me to commit when I’m ready," Brown said, via 247Sports. "I told him that I am ready right now. I’m pretty sure Coach Swinney jumped up onto his table when I told him.”

According to 247Sports, Brown is the top linebacker in his class, the top recruit from the talent-rich state of Georgia, and the No. 5 overall 2024 recruit in the entire country.

Those are big-time recruiting rankings, and his commitment to Clemson was made even bigger for the Tigers considering the competition. Georgia, Oklahoma, Ohio State and Tennessee were the other finalists.

“I think the biggest thing about Clemson is the overall genuineness of the place,” Brown explained.

Clemson now has the 10th-ranked 2024 recruiting class nationally. Brown is Swinney's first five-star this cycle.
