Clearwater man killed tenant renting dead mother’s house, police say

CLEARWATER, Fla. (WFLA) — A Clearwater man was charged with murder in connection to a fatal stabbing on Thursday.

Clearwater police were called to a home on Pinewood Avenue at 7:20 p.m. to investigate a man’s death. Police determined Scott Christy, 61 was fatally stabbed.

In a news release Friday, Clearwater police identified the suspect as Aurelian Frumosu, 41. Christy’s family was renting the home owned by Frumosu’s mother, who died last year. The two families are embroiled in civil litigation over the property, which is in probate, according to police.

Police accused Frumosu of trying to damage an outdoor air conditioning unit by kicking it and hitting it with a brick on Thursday evening. Frumosu allegedly entered the home when Christy went outside to investigate.

A struggle ensued between the two men, according to Clearwater police. Frumosu allegedly stabbed Christy and he was rushed to Morton Plant Hospital, where he later died.

Frumosu was arrested and charged with second degree murder and armed burglary. He is being held at the Pinellas County Jail on a $150,000 bond.
