Thompson Free Library book sale
DOVER-FOXCROFT — The first 2024 Ten Cent Sook Sale at the Thompson Free Library will be from May 30 to June 1. Get your summer reading now. The sale runs Thursday, May 30 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Friday, May 31 9 a.m.to 5 p.m.; and Saturday, June 1 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The sale is in the basement of the Thompson Free Library, 186 East Main Street. Included in the sale are weeded paperbacks and hardcovers, fiction and nonfiction, children’s books, audio books, DVDs, and jigsaw puzzles. Proceeds from this sale are for children’s programming. Please make no donations for this sale. This sale is only for weeded library books, as the library basement remodeling is still in progress.

Two teenaged Civil War soldiers from Foxcroft remembered
During a chance wandering through the Parson’s Cemetery on the Parson’s Landing Road in Dover-Foxcroft last fall, Jim Austin, the commander of the local Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War, came across the graves of two Civil War soldiers, John H. Gould and Edwin N. Pratt, and thought they would be worthy of honors during our memorial services this spring. What appeared to be a random choice of two soldiers, turned out to hint at a deeper connection upon investigation of their lives and untimely deaths.
Three Rivers Kiwanis hosts Hooked on Fishing, Not Drugs
MILO, Maine (WABI) - Three Rivers Kiwanis hosted the latest edition of its Hooked on Fishing, Not Drugs event at Harris Pond. Event organizers wanted to show fourth graders from Brownville Elementary School the way to have fun with outdoor activities like fishing so they stay on the right path.
Center Theatre seeks teens for traveling summer show
For the fourth year the Center Theatre for the Performing Arts in Dover-Foxcroft is looking for high school students to perform around the region for the summer. Because of the extended nature of the Summer performance schedule, and a Challenge America grant from the National Endowment for the Arts, every performer will receive a $60 stipend for each of performances they participate in.
Thompson Free Library to kick off Read and Feed Program
DOVER-FOXCROFT — Thompson Free Library is happy to announce the launch of our Read and Feed Program on June 5. The Read and Feed Program will be a combination of bookmobile and mobile food distribution, which was made possible through funding from Good Shepherd Food Bank’s Community Driven Strategies to End Hunger Initiative. TFL is also partnering with Rowell’s Garage, who will rent us a van, and Piscataquis Regional Food Center, who will provide us with produce to distribute for the program.

Moosehead Marine Museum launches final leg ‘Keep Kate Cruising’ campaign
GREENVILLE — The recent award of $500,000 in Congressionally-Directed Spending, has enabled the Moosehead Marine Museum to reach 78 percent of the $2 million goal and to continue the important work of the multiyear project, the “Keep Kate Cruising” campaign. Thanks to generous donations from individuals, foundations and businesses as well as the support of U.S. Sens. Susan Collins, R-Maine and Angus King, I-Maine in securing the federal grant, the Moosehead Marine Museum can continue to replace 110-year-old internal structures and keep the historic Kate operating for another 25 years.

DOVER-FOXCROFT — Last fall the Piscataquis County Economic Development Council put out a request for proposals to develop a hotel in Dover-Foxcroft. The council identified two potential sites for development — the market prices for the parcels would be determined between the buyer and seller — with one being an undeveloped lot on West Main Street behind Community Health & Counseling Services and Penquis Rental and the other being any available lot within the Pine Crest Business Park off Route 7.

Blacksmith Shop Museum opens this weekend
DOVER-FOXCROFT — The Blacksmith Shop Museum, located on Dawes Road, will be opening for the 2024 season on Memorial Day Weekend. The shop is open nearly every day all summer until fall. If the flag is flying, come in and enjoy the ox lifter, the fly net, and all the tools used by the smithy.
