Motorist arrested for OWI

While on patrol on May 21, Clay Township police conducted a traffic stop in the area of Dyke Road and Saint John Drive on a Ford F-350 for a speeding violation, according to a police report. Officers made contact with the driver, and while speaking with him, noticed a strong odor of alcohol coming from the vehicle. Both occupants admitted to consuming alcohol and said they had a few drinks at dinner. The driver exited the vehicle upon the officers’ request and sobriety evaluations were administered, after which the driver was taken into custody for operating under the influence. He was transported back to the Clay Township Police Department for processing. Because of the passenger’s level of intoxication, she was transported back to the Clay Township Police Department, where she was able to call for a sober party to pick her up. The vehicle was towed from the location and impounded and a report was generated regarding the incident that will be sent to the township prosecutor for review.

ATV driver arrested for operating under influence of drug

While on patrol on May 23, Clay Township police conducted a traffic stop on M-29 near Pearl Beach Boulevard on a black four-wheeler for multiple traffic violations, according to a police report. Officers made contact with the driver, who was the sole occupant of the all-terrain vehicle. He said he was just driving from helping a friend a returning to his home. While officers were speaking with the driver, he admitted to smoking marijuana prior to the traffic stop. Officers conducted sobriety evaluations and subsequently the driver was taken into custody for operating under the influence of a drug. He was transported to the Clay Township Police Department for processing and the four-wheeler was towed from the location and impounded due to the arrest. A report was generated and will be forwarded to the local prosecutor for review.

Driver collides with deer in roadway

Clay Township police were dispatched to the area of Shea and Palms roads on May 24 in response to a report of a traffic crash involving a car and a deer, according to a police report. Officers made contact with the driver of the vehicle, who appeared to be uninjured. The driver said she was going westbound on Shea Road east of Palms Road when a deer entered the roadway from the south and that she was unable to avoid colliding with the deer. The damage was documented and a state crash report was completed. The driver and all passengers were uninjured in the crash.
