CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – In 2017, Tracie Hogan was volunteering with Montgomery County Animal Care and Control helping around the shelter and with animal rescues. She saw a need for the community to come together to raise funds and help save the lives of animals, and Angel Fund was born.

“A lot of animals were coming into Animal Care and Control, and a lot of times the dogs or cats may have either been abused, injured or have an illness and Montgomery County didn’t have the money in the budget to pay for the vetting for these animals,” Hogan said.

Back then, many of the animals were euthanized because no funds were available to help them, she said. In 2018, Hogan, along with her husband David, started the nonprofit Angel Fund as a way to benefit sick and injured animals at Animal Care and Control.

Hogan said the goal is to help animals with injuries, illnesses or other special needs and provide treatment and other services to prepare them to be rescued or adopted. Since the Angel Fund began over five years ago Hogan said the lives of more than 100 animals have been saved.

As word has spread about the work of Angel Fund, Hogan said she is now trying to help more lower-income individuals and families who have sick or injured pets and can’t afford to pay an expensive vet bill, so they won’t end up at the shelter.

More people are turning to the organization for help, which is increasing her costs. “It’s not that the fundraising has gone down, as much as I am needing more money because I’m helping more people,” she said.

Hogan added that 99 percent of the donations that come into Angel Fund go directly to paying for the veterinarian services. “I don’t have any overhead, I don’t have any sort of payroll, I don’t get paid,” she said.
