CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – West Creek boys’ basketball announced on Instagram that head coach Russell Malone has stepped down following the conclusion of the 2022–23 season.

According to West Creek Athletic Director Patrick Digby, Malone has coached for nearly 30 years, which includes coaching West Creek boys’ basketball for nine seasons.

“Russell has been a fixture here at WCHS for nine years,” said Digby. “He has always led and coached with dignity and given his players respect and guidance. Coach Malone has fielded many competitive teams, coached athletes and set an example for his players.

“He has always been loyal to West Creek and spent countless hours away from his family to work with our student athletes to grow our program. There are not enough kind words to thank him for his time and energy he has dedicated to West Creek basketball. We wish him the best of luck in any future endeavors.”

According to the Instagram post, Malone is stepping down so he can spend more time with his family moving forward. Malone will continue to teach at West Creek but noted that he will be open to future opportunities on the court or in the educational field.
