CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – After years of serving breakfast, lunch and dinner in Clarksville, Rudy’s Diner, 1768 Madison St., will permanently close its doors in less than a week, according to a sign posted on the restaurant’s door.

An employee at the restaurant told Clarksville Now that the final day of operation is March 22. The employee said the diner is closing after a developer bought out the property with plans to establish a car wash in that location.

Clarksville Now reached out to City Building Codes, who explained plans for the car wash have been submitted for review, but nothing is anywhere near certain as of yet. City officials noted that it is very early in the process and that no demo application or site plan has been approved.

The developer will need Common Design Review Board approval to demo the building, and they will have to submit renderings of what would take its place, according to City Building Codes Director David Smith. Site plan approval at the Regional Planning Commission will also need to be completed.

All that the city has at the moment is the speculative business name of Tidal Wave Auto Spa, according to Building Codes.

The owner of Rudy’s Diner declined to comment.
