Bengals workouts see just two players absent

The Cincinnati Bengals have 87 players in town for workouts currently as they go through the light portions of offseason activities.

And the two names on the roster currently not in attendance aren’t a shocker — offensive tackle Jonah Williams and cornerback Chidobe Awuzie.

That’s two big names currently rehabbing injuries away from the team with the blessing of head coach Zac Taylor.

Awuzie tore his ACL on Halloween last season and has recently detailed his comeback timeline.

Williams had surgery to repair a knee injury of his own. He also had the trade request after the signing of Orlando Brown Jr. and reports said the Bengals had trade talks with teams like the Jaguars before deciding to keep him at right tackle.

For Williams, it makes sense to rehab away from the team and not risk injury while in the final year of a contract — all while being asked to learn a new position. It would be more interesting to watch if he wound up missing mandatory stuff later in the summer, too.

Both guys are established veterans in the Bengals program and Taylor has given his blessing to those types in the past when it comes to rehabbing and even training away from the team.
