Jason Kelce Gives Backstory On Recruiting Joe Burrow To Play at UC

The Heisman Trophy-winner captured his accolades at LSU.

CINCINNATI — UC narrowly missed out on one of the best quarterbacks in college football history.

Joe Burrow narrowed his final two school choices to UC and LSU back when he transferred from Ohio State in 2018. The NFL star chose the Tigers over Luke Fickell and the Bearcats to great success.

He visited both schools and even got a pitch from Bearcats legend Jason Kelce.

I tried to recruit Joe Burrow out of Cincinnati, it did not work," Kelce said. "He went to LSU. And it was the best decision he ever made. When he was in the transfer portal, somebody gave me his number. Luke Fickell was with him at Ohio State, he helped recruit him. He's like, 'Would you mind? like this kid would be really good for Cincinnati.' I shot him a text and it was right after our Super Bowl run. He's like, 'Man, you guys killed it this year. You had a great speech and loved you guys man.'"

Burrow went on to win a National Championship at LSU in 2019 amidst one of the greatest seasons from a quarterback in college football history.

Now, he's back in Cincinnati seeking a pro championship.
