Lake City construction company facing thousands of dollars in extra costs due to closure of U.S. 50
A Lake City-based construction company can't start its first job of the season due to the bridge closure on U.S. 50 between Montrose and Gunnison. Coal Creek Construction's heavy equipment is stuck in Montrose. It was set to start work for the U.S. Forest Service in Crested Butte at the beginning of this month. The company says it would cost thousands of dollars to move its equipment using the I-70 detour. 74-year-old Mike Schell heads the small, family-owned and operated business. He has nearly four decades of experience in construction and dirt work. He wants to see the Lake City Cutoff open to commercial vehicles (in excess of 16,000 GVWR) doing business locally.

3-year-old boy dies in Montrose pond accident
GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) - At 11:37 a.m. on April 29, WestCO dispatch received a call from the 69000 block of Vernal Road about an unresponsive child. Despite life-saving measures performed by first responders, the child’s father, and a neighbor, the 3-year-old boy was pronounced dead after continued efforts at the hospital. The child was later identified as 3-year-old John Robert Gorsky, of Montrose, Colo. The cause of death appears to be drowning.

Montrose Recreation District to host Adaptive Night
MONTROSE, Colo. (KREX) — The Montrose Recreation District will host Adaptive Night on Thursday. Adaptive Night is a free event for disabled individuals and their loved ones which offers an inclusive and supportive environment for everyone to enjoy themselves with a wide range of activities and games.
