TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (AP) — Isaiah Swope had 22 points in Indiana State's 77-48 victory over Southern Illinois on Tuesday night. Swope had six rebounds for the Sycamores (6-1). Xavier Bledson scored 17 points, going 6 of 9 from the floor, including 2 for 4 from 3-point range, and 3 for 3 from the line. Julian Larry went 5 of 11 from the field to finish with 12 points.

On Nov. 21, Bill Story turned 72 years old. He played football for the Salukis from 1970-74 and later played professionally for the Kansas City Chiefs. He is also a diabetic, and both of his legs are amputated above the knee. He has dealt with countless injuries, including back issues and a ruptured Achilles. But he has not accepted a wheelchair and doesn’t plan on doing so.

CARBONDALE, Ill. – Fresh off of a career-high 30-point performance on Saturday, Laniah Randle has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week. In a week where the Salukis earned two victories in three games at the San Juan Shootout in Puerto Rico, Randle was dominant, averaging 24.7 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 2.3 steals-per-game.

Basketball has officially started! Basketball in Carbondale Community High School has gone as far back as 1929. Basketball is something people get excited for. Going to games, cheering on your team – it’s all really exciting. Coryion Lewis is a junior at CCHS and also plays JV and Varsity for the CCHS basketball team. He has played for 3 years at CCHS and plans to continue after high school. Lewis plays positions 4 and 5 and occasionally 3, and his number is 23.

The Bowling team at Carbondale High School is a relatively new team that has been gaining lots of popularity in recent years. Last year, the girls bowling team won conference and had 2 members of the team make it to state. Many athletes have used bowling as a way to stay active during their sports’ off-season. There are many new players this year, all hoping to have fun and make connections through Bowling. Tryouts for this years’ team were held on Tuesday, November 14th, at the SIU Bowling Alley.

The Salem Lady Wildcats improved to 5-1 on the season with a home win over West Frankfort 46-24. Marah Johnson led the balanced attack with 14 and Kayla Felgenhaur added 10. Salem also won the JV game to even their record at 1-1 with a 44-21 win. Brylee Pennypacker led Salem with 13 and Kylee Garrison added 12.

CARBONDALE, ILL. – Southern Illinois’ season continues as the Salukis accepted a bid to the 2023 NIVC Tournament as announced Sunday evening. The Salukis postseason berth marks the second in program history and first appearance in the National Invitational Volleyball Tournament. The last time Southern played past the Missouri Valley Conference tournament was in 2015 at the NCAA Tournament when SIU took on Illinois in the opening round.

CARBONDALE, Ill. – Saluki Athletics and the City of Carbondale Police Department have partnered again this holiday season for the annual "Coats for Kids" coat drive. Fans are encouraged to donate new coats for boys and girls, ages 1-10, in an effort to help our Southern Illinois neighbors in need during the cold winter months. After opening up last night in the Benton Tournament, the Bobcats step out of tournament play tonight when they travel to Effingham. Last night, Salem beat Benton to open the tournament 33-30. Kyler King led Salem with 12. The game saw an altercation between fans from Salem and Benton that saw the game delayed about 5 minutes and ended with a Benton fan ejected.
