Bond modified for second-degree manslaughter suspect

A man charged with second-degree manslaughter had his bond modified in Christian Circuit Court Wednesday afternoon.

Daequon Forte appeared before Judge Andrew Self and his attorney argued for bond modification, saying his client is not a flight risk and would reside with his mother—Commonwealth’s Attorney Stephanie Bolen had no objection, but did say they would want Forte to undergo routine drug testing while out on bond.

Judge Self did grant the motion, allowing Forte to post ten percent of $25,000, but told him if he violates those conditions then he will return to jail for the remainder of the case.

A special prosecutor will be appointed to serve in this case.

According to a Christian County Grand Jury indictment, Forte is accused of wantonly causing the death of the victim—identified only as J.C.—by allegedly distributing to them a controlled substance that ultimately lead to their death.  Along with second-degree manslaughter, Forte is also charged with trafficking in a controlled substance, carfentanil or fentanyl derivatives.
