Chippewa Falls community unites for ALS awareness walk

    2024-06-09

CHIPPEWA FALLS, Wis. (WKBT) -- On Sunday people in Chippewa Falls came together to raise awareness at the Walk to Defeat ALS.

ALS is a nervous system disease that affects nerves in the brain and spinal cord causing progressive loss of muscle control. There is no cure, giving those diagnosed 2-5 years to live.

Participants of the walk helped raise money for ALS care, services and research. Over 300 people participated in the walk, including those who lost loved ones to ALS.

One volunteer we spoke with shared that she lost her husband to the disease.

"My husband passed away July 4th of last year, so he was here for our first annual ALS walk," said Carol Lendle.

More information on ALS walks can be found on the ALS Associations website .
