CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — The City of Chillicothe has announced a new neighborhood traffic calming program aimed at reducing speeding and increasing safety on specific streets. The program is a joint effort between the Chillicothe Police, Planning, and Service Departments and will address recurring speeding issues on S. Watt Street, Allen Avenue, Piatt Avenue, and Tritscheller Road in Yoctangee Park.
The program is intended to create a long-term solution that will benefit all users of the streets, regardless of their mode of transportation. “Neighborhood traffic concerns are among the most frequent calls that we get from community members, so I’m excited to see what this new approach will be able to accomplish,” said Mayor Luke Feeney. “Over the past few years, we’ve found that collaboration between departments coupled with engagement with the community have resulted in the best outcomes, and I’m hopeful that this project will be another example of that success.”
The Traffic Calming Program will include the use of speed signs, targeted traffic enforcement by the Chillicothe Police Department, and pop-up traffic calming demonstrations. The program is expected to enhance pedestrian and bicycle safety in neighborhoods and promote equal access to all modes of transportation.
The public will be able to provide feedback on the program, learn more about traffic calming methods, and review summary reports through the project dashboard located at engage.chillicotheoh.gov. A full timeline with targeted activities is also available on the dashboard.
The City of Chillicothe’s new traffic calming program is a proactive and collaborative approach to addressing speeding concerns in the community. The program will provide a safe and equitable environment for all residents and is an example of the City’s commitment to promoting safety and accessibility for all.
