CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – National Night Out, an annual community-building campaign, was held in Chicopee to promote safety and trust among residents and law enforcement.

When is National Night Out in my community?

The event, which took place at Sarah Jane Sherman Park, provided an opportunity for Chicopee residents to interact with law enforcement in a casual setting.

Families were able to get to know their neighborhood first responders, explore their vehicles, and enjoy some games, music, and food.

Organizers say this event allowed them to see the person behind the badge and uniform.

For the people to realize that if we’re coming to to help you in a situation that we are approachable and we’re humans also so we understand every has bad days, and when you need someone to call for the bad days, you hope that the officers are coming to understand what you’re going through and they can have the empathy that you’re looking for.

    Travis Ordiorne, Chicopee Police Spokesperson

More than 16,000 communities across the country hold ‘National Night Out’ events every year.
