2 charged in fatal Chicopee shooting

Police responded to a car-to-car shooting on Interstate 391 in Chicopee on March 12.

Two people were arrested this week in connection with the fatal car-to-car shooting that occurred in Chicopee earlier this month.

Springfield resident Noah Torres, 19, and Holyoke resident Kiana Gonzalez, 22, were both arraigned in Chicopee District Court earlier this week, Hampden District Attorney Anthony Gulluni’s office announced.

At 10 p.m. on March 12, a vehicle with multiple people inside arrived at Baystate Medical Center. Some were suffering from gunshot wounds, but officials did not say how many. One man, Guyton Winspeare, 35, of Chicopee, was pronounced dead, Gulluni’s office said.

“The surviving occupants were uncooperative, leaving investigators trying to locate a crime scene,” Gulluni’s office said in a statement.

Authorities located the scene of the shooting early the next morning on I-391 South between exits 3 and 4.

Through an investigation, police developed probable cause for Torres and Gonzalez. Arrest warrants were issued last Friday, and both were taken into custody earlier this week.

Winspeare and the other occupants of an SUV were traveling on I-391 in Chicopee when another vehicle pulled up along their driver side. Gunshots were fired at the occupants of the SUV, who stopped and tried to flag down help. They were unsuccessful, so they drove to the hospital, police said at the time.

An investigation is ongoing. Authorities did not release more specifics about how or why they believe the shooting unfolded.

Torres was charged with murder, possession of a large capacity firearm without a license, possession of a large capacity feeding device without a license, and possession of ammunition without a license. Gonzalez was charged with being an accessory after the fact, tampering or destruction of evidence, possession of a large capacity firearm without a license, possession of a large capacity feeding device without a license, and possession of ammunition without a license.

Torres pleaded not guilty and was ordered held without bail. Gonzalez’s bail was set at $100,000, and she is currently being held at a correctional facility.
