Three people dead following I-391 car fire in Chicopee

CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – Three people have died following a car fire on I-391 in Chicopee early Sunday morning.

According to State Police Trooper Brandon Doherty, around 3:40 a.m. State Police were called to I-391 North around mile marker 2.4 for a car fire. When troopers arrived, they found the vehicle fully on fire. The driver was removed from the vehicle but two other passengers were trapped inside.

The driver, 24-year-old Jonathan Santiago of Springfield, was taken to Baystate Medical Center but died from his injuries. The two passengers, 23-year-old Karylee Lopez Moret of Springfield and 25-year-old Angel Gabriel Rosado Colon of Holyoke died in the accident.

State Police are investigating the accident. The right and center lanes of I-391 North was closed Sunday morning for several hours but were reopened around 7:30 a.m.
