
CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – A Springfield woman was struck by a vehicle on I-391 in Chicopee Wednesday night.
According to Massachusetts State Police Spokesperson Dave Procopio, at around 8:18 p.m. a two-vehicle crash occurred on I-391 northbound on the elevated portion of the highway over the Chicopee River.
Granby Fire crews rescue person and dog stuck in swampland This crash has led to serious injuries of a 43-year-old Springfield woman who was a passenger of a 2022 Ford F150 pickup. The driver, a 44-year-old Chicopee man, pulled over because his passenger was feeling sick. She exited the vehicle and was on the side of the road next to the Ford when a 2015 BMW XI SUV struck the rear of the Ford which subsequently struck the woman.
Troopers applied tourniquets to the victim’s left arm and left leg slowing blood loss and stabilizing her. She was taken to Baystate Medical Center and is in stable condition.
The driver of the BMW, 27-year-old Xavier Colon of Holyoke, remained at the crash and Troopers administered several standardized field sobriety tests. He was arrested and charged with the following:
- OUI Drugs, causing serious injury
- Negligent operation of a motor vehicle
- Marked lanes violation
- Speeding
Colon posted $5,000 bail Thursday morning and was released pending his arraignment in Chicopee District Court.
