WARREN, Ohio – The Chico State men's golf team got put in a similar position for the second straight postseason tournament.

On the final day of the NCAA Championships, the Wildcats got the early-bird start and finished by scoring a 288 to end its three-round tournament at 884. While the 'Cats did their part by finishing strong at the tournament, they once again had to put the fate of their season at the hands of other results.

Unfortunately, Chico State did not receive the help it had in the NCAA Super Regionals and had to settle with a 13th place finish in the national tournament. Though the 'Cats leaped four spots in the standings, they miss the requirement of needing to finish eighth or better to advance to the match-medal play.

Dakota Ochoa had the best finish on the day. Following a bogey to start the third round, he went on to be perfect the rest of the way to finish with a 3-under 69. He leaves Avalon Lakes finishing 1-over 217 and finished in a tie for 18th.

Tyler Ashman came up even in his final appearance at Avalon Lakes, making par in both the front and back-9. Though he recorded bogies in five holes, he made up for it with an eagle on a par-5 and made three birdies. He ended the tournament with a total of 7-over 223.

Giuliano Kaminski also had a 223 score thanks to a 74 result in the third round. Following a rough front-9, Kaminski went perfect in the final nine holes, including a trio of birdies.

Giacomo Sorrentino turned in a 73 for the second consecutive day, scoring three birdies and making par 12 times. Naoki Easterday rounded out the Wildcats with a 75 on the final day. He recovered from a 40 in the front-9 by finishing 1-under in the back-9. The two finished with a 228 score each.

Chico State finishes the 2023-24 season averaging a combined 290.82 in 33 rounds. They also picked up two first-place finishes in the fall and seven top-5 finishes with 15 or more teams in the field.
