CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A man on parole for gun charges was accused of attempted murder after allegedly shooting at Chicago police while trying to leave the scene of another shooting.

Cook County prosecutors said Ernest Lockett, who also goes by the name Antwon Harrison, was in a shootout near 59th and Throop Streets Monday night, after which he and others drove off in a black Jeep.

Prosecutors said police started following while Lockett shot at them before the Jeep crashed. He and the 21-year-old driver were arrested. Officers found a 9mm handgun with an extended magazine in the car.

A public defender argued that prosecutors couldn’t prove who fired the gun, and they questioned the reliability of the witness who claimed it was Lockett.

Prosecutors said he would be a danger if released.

Other passengers, including people who had been wounded in a prior shooting, were not charged.

In January 2023, Lockett was charged with possession of a stolen vehicle. He was released after he posted a $200 bond, according to court records.

A warrant was issued for his arrest in April 2023 after he failed to show up for a court hearing.
