CHICAGO (CBS) -- Quick action by several police departments Wednesday morning helped save an abducted child.

Police said the toddler was taken by the estranged father after a short visit Tuesday night. Police said the father contacted the mother, sharing he had no intention of returning the 3-year-old.

State troopers got an alert about the car involved and saw it on the inbound Dan Ryan. Chicago police helped stop it near Madison and Paulina.

Police said the 3-year-old was found unharmed and was taken to a local hospital for evaluation.

Officers took the father into custody, but there's no word yet on any charges.
