CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Chicago police issued a business alert Monday following a series of smash-and-grab burglaries at North Side businesses.

Police said at least four businesses were burglarized in about 30 minutes early Sunday morning within the span of a few blocks in Chicago’s North Center neighborhood.

One to five individuals, wearing face coverings and hooded sweatshirts, were involved in smashing through storefront windows, taking cash registers and alcohol and then fleeing on foot, according to the alert.

The first took place in the 1900 block of West Byron Street and the last reported burglary happened in the 2800 block of North Lincoln Avenue.

A community alert was additionally issued following the armed robberies of two businesses in Albany Park over the weekend.

In both alerts, police suggested businesses use video surveillance and keep areas well lit.
