CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) --The University of Chicago Police issued a “Security Alert” after an armed robbery early Saturday morning.

A university student was walking on the sidewalk at 5640 South University Av. around 1:00 a.m. when they were approached by two suspects who exited a red Kia Soul armed with handguns.

The suspects demanded and took the victim’s phone, keys and wallet before reentering their vehicle.

The victim reported no physical injuries and UCPD is investigating the incident.

In order to remain safe, UCPD suggests that students avoid using cell phones or other electronic devices while on the street, try to walk with a group or have a friend walk with you, and be alert and aware of their surroundings at all times.
