CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Chicago Police met with dozens of community volunteers in Millennium Park Friday evening- joining forces to help keep the peace among teens congregating downtown this weekend.

Joseph Williams is with "Mr. Dad's Father's Club." He said the volunteers will serves as "mediators and provide support" if any conflicts ensue or help people get home or on the shuttle bus.

Chicago Police have been concentrating on stopping trouble downtown following several incidents of violence, theft, and mayhem involving young people in the downtown area several weeks ago.

"Really coming together to make sure that we're keeping our kids safe-not coming to police them, not coming to say they're wrong, dehumanize them in any way, but to make sure they're safe," said Damien Howard with the Brilliance and Excellence movement.

Police and community members have also pledged to be out all across the city this weekend to keep people safe as summer begins.
