(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – A 64-year-old Chicago woman and her family are asking for the public’s help after the woman’s dog was stolen at gunpoint earlier this week in Portage Park.
Alicja Pierzchala was walking her French bulldog, Pepa, around 7:45 p.m. Wednesday night in the 800 block of West Giddings when a robber with a handgun demanded the animal. Pierzchala struggled with the suspect, who knocked her to the ground, according to information from the Chicago Police Department.
The suspect fled with the dog. Since then, Pierzchala has talked with several media outlets to publicize the crime – and the stolen pet.
She adopted the 6-year-old dog two months ago after learning the former owners planned to put her down, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.
Police say whoever stole Peppa left his cellphone behind and was caught on several videos as he ran toward a red van. They have another strong lead in the case: Peppa has a microchip that can be tracked.
