CHICAGO – In a major operation overnight, the Illinois State Police (ISP) made a significant bust on northbound I-57, confiscating nearly 60 kilos (123 pounds) of counterfeit drugs. The seizure included a staggering 500,000 fake pills laced with the deadly synthetic opioid fentanyl. The estimated street value of the drugs is estimated to be between $5 to $10 million.

The operation, which is still under investigation, has potentially saved thousands of lives. The fake pills, disguised to resemble legitimate medications, were intercepted by vigilant ISP officers, preventing their distribution and potential harm.

Authorities have not disclosed specific details about the location on I-57 where the stop occurred. However, officials have released photos showcasing the sizeable haul, which was cleverly concealed inside a truck bed tool box.
