CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A community group supported by some movers and shakers is trying to raise money to hire private security to patrol its neighborhood.

The Fulton Market neighborhood has been up and coming for years. Now, one of its community groups wants to raise $800,000 a year to hire a private security company to patrol the neighborhood.

According to Block Club Chicago, the Fulton Market District Improvement Association is run by big-name restauranteurs, developers and others. It wants to raise the money to hire P4 Security Solutions, which has hired off-duty and retired police officers and former military.

Donnie Madia is owner of One Off Hospitality, the parent company of Fulton Market restaurants The Publican and avec.

“What’s really important here is that we, as a community, band together and figure out what we need to do in the next few months to deploy P4,” he told Block Club Chicago.

If the company is hired, it would provide 24-hour patrols of the area bounded by Halsted, Ogden, Hubbard and Washington Boulevard.
