CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO - Chicago Park District officials confirmed that they have temporarily closed all of their indoor pools, but suggested things are progressing normally.

The Chicago Park District said all of its indoor pools are closed this week as lifeguards are reassigned to work the beaches.

“Every year, as spring session pool programming ends, indoor pools are temporarily closed to the public (to) begin training our summer aquatics workforce,” District officials said in a written statement.

The officials said they are also providing the necessary maintenance to the park pools. During this time, they said, some lifeguards are reassigned to begin training for beachfront duty. All of this is happening in a year after the District had trouble hiring enough lifeguards for all their waterborne activities.

But, officials said their goal is to open all the pools this summer, and they are very optimistic about the success of this year’s hiring campaign efforts.
