UPDATE: Security footage shows break-in at Thompson Center post office

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Chicago police are looking for nearly 20 people connected to a break-in at a U.S. Post Office in the Thompson Center Building in the Loop early Monday.

Police said it happened shortly after 12:30 a.m., when approximately 18 men broke the front door to the post office, located in the 100 block of West Randolph Street.

Surveillance footage shared with WBBM from the break-in shows a group of people walking through and looking around the post office.

The U.S. Postal Inspection Service announced a reward of up to $10,000 for information leading up to the arrest and conviction of the those involved in the burglary.

Signs were posted outside of the post office stating that it would be “closed until further notice.” Revolving doors leading the post office were also jammed shut with carts.

Chicago police said it was unclear if anything was taken. Officials said no one was in custody.

A spokesperson with the U.S. Postal Inspection Service said the U.S. Postal Inspectors and the Chicago Police Department were investigating the property damage at the Thompson Center post office.

It was unclear how long the location would be closed.
