(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Spring Break is here for Chicago Public Schools. The Chicago Public Library says if restless kids -- or parents -- are looking for something to do, the librarians have plenty of ideas.
"The great news is, I just looked at how many events we're offering at our 81 locations, and we're offering over 300 events over the next week,” says Shelley Hughes, director of children's services and family engagement for the Chicago Public Library.
"There's a general fear that kids don't really like to read, or that we have to come up with things that don't revolve around books for them to be engaged,” she said.
"And I've actually been really surprised at the number of book clubs that are highly successful and have lots and lots of kids who want to participate in them."
Hughes says beginning this weekend and through next weekend, every one of the 81 branch libraries will have events and activities for kids.
The Chicago Public Library is getting ready to celebrate its 150th anniversary on June 10.
