CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- On Transgender Day of Visibility Friday, a local LGBTQ+ advocacy group is sharing the ways its lifting up trans voices today and every day.

Lindsay Doyle with the Chicago therapy collective said this year's trans day of visibility is especially crucial, given the recent wave of anti-trans legislation and conversation throughout the United States.

"The devastation that's wrought by just such attacks on people's fundamental rights- their access to healthcare, housing, and the almost what feels like the permission for vitriol, I don't think we can overstate how detrimental that is to so many people."

Doyle said the CTC is also hoping to address this by partnering with other trans-led organization and prioritizing its #HireTransNow initiative, which aims to eliminate hiring stigma and employment discrimination against the trans community.

She said she hopes trans day of visibility and the CTC's ongoing efforts to elevate trans voices engages others as well.

"I hope that there just continues to be a lot of coming together and, and recognition of the fact that, you know, trans folks are our neighbors or colleagues, our loved ones, our community members and we lose a lot. When we kind of leave people behind sacrifice people, scapegoat people."
