CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The Chicago City Council reorganization plans approved at the Council's special meeting Thursday would increase the number of committees. That will also increase the city's price tag.

The newly approved reorganization plan would increase the number of Council committees from 19 to 28. The city's spending more than $5 million per year for the committees it currently has.

There were questions as to how much will the additional panels cost and where will the money come from? Budget Committee chair, Alderwoman Pat Dowell, had some answers.

"I think it's gonna be a little more than a million, but for all of the committees, but what we're looking at now is looking at the existing budgets for the existing committees, what they have actually spent over time, whether they're actually spending to their budget limits."

Finance chair Scott Waguespack said the new committees wouldn't be in place for a while, so that's a consideration too.
