Andre Drummond steps away from social media, says he's focusing on his mental health

Andre Drummond says he's taking some time away from social media to focus on personal issues.

Chicago Bulls big man Andre Drummond has announced on Twitter that he is deleting his social media apps and will be focusing on his mental health. He added that he was also changing his phone number and that his social media team would now be managing his accounts. The tweet provided a brief glimpse into an issue that many athletes, celebrities, and everyday people face: the struggles associated with mental health.

It's okay to ask for help

While Drummond did not share any more details regarding his decision, he sent out a message encouraging those who are going through similar struggles to seek help.

"If you too are struggling with your mental health, you are not alone đź’™ it's okay to ask for help," wrote the two-time All-Star.

Although the 6-foot-10 center is far removed from his All-Star days with the Detroit Pistons, he remains a solid big man who can impose himself in the painted area. Functioning as a backup for Nikola Vucevic, Drummond is averaging 6.1 points and 6.7 rebounds for the Bulls.

He was especially effective against the Los Angeles Lakers last weekend when he put up 12 points and eight rebounds, stepping up when Vucevic was ejected in the second quarter of that game to help Chicago come away with a 118-108 win.

Focus on mental health

Drummond is not the first NBA player to speak up regarding their struggles with mental health. In fact, Drummond's All-Star teammate, DeMar DeRozan, posted on Twitter in 2018 how depression was haunting him.

"You have a clearer mind, and you have a different type of stance of knowing yourself," DeRozan shared in an interview with the Washington Post. "Not feeling like you're behind the curtain, it gives you a sense of freedom because so many people don't know how to let that out."
