The best Meatballs in Illinois are here in Schaumburg.

I love nothing more than stumbling upon an establishment by chance, only for it to be a home run in terms of food, service, and quality.
The name of this eatery is Finuccio and Sons Italian Deli & Catering in Schaumburg.
I was sitting around my house, looking for something to eat for lunch, and decided to Google Italian delis in my area. One highly reviewed deli popped up, called Finuccio and Sons Italian Deli. I thought, "Let’s give this place a try and see how it turns out."
When I arrived at Finuccio and Sons, it was around 11:30 AM. The reviews all raved about their legendary meatball sub, so I decided that was what I was going to try. The deli is a half-grocery store, half-eatery concept. The grocery section carries authentic Italian foods like pasta and sauces. The cooler area sells pre-made frozen items, such as meatballs and sauces
I was greeted by one of the owners, Stacy, who was extremely friendly. She asked me which sandwich I would like to try. I told her I wanted the meatball sub with hot giardiniera. Stacy suggested adding provolone cheese, and of course, I couldn’t turn down a cheese option!
My order was ready in minutes. I sat at one of the tables facing the front counter of the deli. I took my first bite of the meatball sub and was absolutely blown away by the quality of the bread. The meatballs were cooked perfectly—extremely savory and delicious. The marinara sauce was simple yet incredibly flavorful. I was in food euphoria.
This was easily one of the top three meatball subs I’ve ever had in my life. As I sat there, savoring my sandwich in food heaven, the owner, Fino, asked me how I liked it. I told him I couldn’t believe how good it was—it literally blew me away.
We started chatting, and he told me that every single ingredient in his sandwiches is homemade. The bread is freshly baked in-house, the giardiniera is made by him, and the meatballs are all fresh and hand-rolled.
He also insisted I try one of his cannolis, which he makes with his own ricotta. I jokingly asked if he built the tables too! We laughed, but it was clear that everything here had such a high level of quality and care that only an owner who loves what they do could provide.
As I sat at my table, more and more customers came through the door. Every single person was a regular, and Stacy greeted them by asking if they’d like their usual. She knew every customer and their specific order preferences.
During a break in the lunch rush, I had a chance to chat with Fino and Stacy about their business. They’ve been open for three years, having launched just months after COVID hit. Despite the devastating effects of the pandemic on the restaurant industry, they survived. Their exceptional product quality, loyalty to their customers, and friendly service helped them persevere.
Before leaving, I had to try one of their cannolis. Once again, I was blown away by how delicious it was—completely homemade. If I had 20 of those miniature cannolis in front of me, I’d probably eat every single one. They were that addictive.
As I write this article, I’m seriously thinking to myself: should I go back there today and get another sandwich? It was that good.
I don’t know if it’s just luck in terms of the restaurants I’ve been reviewing lately, but this place deserves a rare 10 out of 10. I cannot stress enough how much you need to visit this place. Run, don’t walk—especially around lunchtime, as it does get busy. The owners are fantastic people who deserve support from their community for the dedication and effort they put into providing the best possible product.
