Abandoned dog tied to tree recovering after first surgery

A dog found tied to a tree is getting a second chance at life.

Josie the retriever mix was abandoned in McCandless and wound up at the West Deer Dog Shelter, where they discovered she needed a lot of medical care.

Animal lovers donated almost $6,000 so Josie could have a tumor removed, 15 teeth extracted and was spayed.

Handlers at West Deer Township Animal Shelter tell KDKA Radio the first surgery was scheduled for Tuesday. Josie is recovering and she will need another one in a about a month or so to have another tumor removed.

One worker tells KDKA Radio Josie’s teeth were so rotted, they had to roll down car windows.

Any money left over goes to the next dog needing medical care.
