Driving Our Economy Forward: Broken Heart Cheesecakes

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — What’s better than cheesecake?

A portable food truck that serves all kinds of cheesecake all around the Scenic City.

Let’s see how Broken Heart Cheesecakes is serving up hope one slice at a time, and driving our economy forward.

“Broken Heart Cheesecakes is a mobile cheesecake unit that we specialize in cheesecakes of different kinds, whether it’s turtle cheesecakes, red velvet, s’mores, or even some odd ones, like a peanut butter and jelly sandwich cheesecake,” said Joseph Gonzalez, owner. “The pandemic got me into this business. You had a lot of time at home, and I just taught myself how to make a cheesecake. Essentially, that’s how it all started. And then my love for cheesecake came from New York. That’s where I’m from, Bronx, New York. So that’s my comfort food. So I wanted to know how to connect with the customer with my comfort food, and then also using the names to play off of what it stands for.”

“It’s phenomenal,” said customer Brandi Livingston. “I’ve done the key lime and I just ordered the new blueberry lemon. It’s phenomenal!”

“I was working for a company for 12 years as a bakery manager, and then one day I finally was like, you know what? I have to do something for the community of Chattanooga,” Gonzalez said. “Something that can bring excitement back to the food scene. And that’s where I kind of just took that leap of faith and started this business. And it’s been great.”

Gonzalez says he wants to keep expanding, and buy multiple trucks.

“I don’t want to go into the brick and mortar side,” he said. “I want to be as mobile as possible, to reach as many people as possible. Use the business to essentially bring awareness to depression. I go through depression also. One thing that I always want my customers to know is that on the back of my shirt it says, ‘You’re worth it, and you’re not alone in this. It’s OK to not be OK.’ I wanted to bring light to the depression so I can show my customers, people who may be going through it, that you can find light in such a dark place.”
