More to the Story with Staley: Cancer Care

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — Cancer is the leading cause of death worldwide, according to the National Cancer Institute. One in six people will die from the disease.

Sunday was National Cancer Survivors Day. One group in Chattanooga gathered to celebrate those survivors.

For the fourth straight year, they gathered, celebrating those who have survived cancer. They did so, appropriately, on the weekend we honor those same people… on National Cancer Survivors Day.

Charlaine Price is one of the leaders of this organization, which is called “Our Journey Of Hope Cancer Care.”

Price knows how much this support means, because she, herself, is fighting the dreaded disease.

“I am still on my cancer journey. I know the importance of diet. You can starve cancer,” Price said. “I’m following God’s plan. I eat a lot of raw vegetables and grains and nuts.”

The group came together for four hours at a church on Moore Road in Brainerd, Tennessee.

Everybody was welcome to attend, free of charge.

There were vendors and sponsors on the scene, supplying various types of screenings. Those included Blood pressure, lung x-rays and stress tests.

Price says cancer patients need all types of support, especially after being diagnosed.

“It’s hard to relate. You immediately think you’re going to die,” Price said. “I took the prognosis. I didn’t want to be in denial. Our ministry is set up to make sure that patients are attended to before they reach the level of depression and anxiety.”

There were also a number of speakers on hand. Sharing hope, with support. Recognizing those who are fighting the good fight. While honoring those who, many times, have won that fight.
