A Chattanooga man faces charges after police say he fired shots into an apartment to try to kill a woman who had broken up with him 3 days before.
Two young children were inside the home at the time, along with two adults. No one was hurt.
A police affidavit we obtained says the incident happened the afternoon of May 2nd at an apartment on the 800 block of West 13th Street Court.
A woman told officers that she heard shots, then looked out her window and saw her ex-boyfriend, later identified as 31-year-old Dewayne Marzky Johnson, running away. Two bullets went through her bedroom window, and struck a rear interior wall.
The affidavit says surveillance video showed Johnson running, and that the woman positively identified him.
The woman told officers she had broken up with Johnson 3 days before, telling him she was going to continue a prior relationship with the father of one of her children.
The report says the woman said since the breakup, "Dewayne has been very upset towards her."
Police say they determined that since Johnson had stayed at the apartment in the past, he knew which window to fire shots into. The affidavit also says since 2 children, ages 1 month and 3 years, were inside the home, that Johnson committed child abuse.
Police arrested Johnson on Wednesday and charged him with attempted first degree murder, 2 counts of aggravated child abuse, 3 counts of aggravated assault, and reckless endangerment.
