Chen Pleads Not Guilty; Trial Not Likely Until Next Year
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – Jason Chen was back in court this morning for his arraignment hearing.
He pleaded not guilty to the charges of first-degree murder and abuse of a corpse in the death of Jasmine Pace.
A motion to have Chen appear in street clothes was denied.
District Attorney Coty Wamp indicated it may be some time before we see a trial begin.
She said, “As we know this case is still fairly new. Evidence will be at TBI for some period of time, so if it were set for trial, it would be far off sometime next year.”
District Attorney Wamp also said she is seeking life with parole in the case.
The next court date is set for early June.
Chen is still being held on a $5 million bond.
