Suspect reaches for weapon, gets shot by officers

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — The TBI is investigating a shooting involving four Chattanooga Police Officers from over the weekend.

The police department has since placed them on administrative leave.

Police were responding to a call about a suspicious person lurking around a home on Ashland Terrace, Sunday morning. The report said the suspect was attempting to break into vehicles.

Chattanooga Police said he was armed, and they gave him numerous commands not to touch his weapon.

However, the TBI said as officers were trying to take the suspect into custody, he reached for a knife on the ground. Then, two officers tased the man and one officer shot him.

The suspect was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

No officers were hurt in this incident.
