CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – On Walnut Street bridge this evening, community members gathered in support of Ed Johnson Day of Remembrance in the same place he was brutally murdered for a crime he didn’t commit.

At 7p.m., community members gathered in support and remembrance of Ed Johnson.

The Ed Johnson Project was introduced to Chattanooga in September 2021.

Statues were placed next to the bridge to promote racial healing and reconciliation.

For the event today, Kofi Mawuko took over the drums, performing a “libation and healing ceremony.”

Local pastor, Charlotte Williams, was also in attendance.

Chattanoogans placed flowers in the hands and around the feet of the Ed Johnson memorial statues throughout the day.
